SPECIAL JOINT TOWN COUNCIL AND PLANNINNG COMMISSION SMP WORKSHOP
CALL TO ORDER – Mayor Dale Jacobson
The Special Joint Council and Planning Commission workshop for the Shoreline Management Plan update for the Town of Cathlamet was called to order by Mayor Dale Jacobson at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday January 19, 2016.
ROLL CALL –
Present: Council Members Andrew Lea, Ryan Smith, and Richard Swart.
Also present were Mayor Dale Jacobson, Municipal Services Clerk Kerrie McNally, Town Planning Commissioners John Collier and Chris Doumit, CREST representative Garrett Phillips, Dept. of Ecology representative Michelle McConnell, Wahkiakum County Engineer Chuck Beyer, Port District #1 Commissioner Scott Anderson and author/historian Rex Ziak.
Garrett Phillips gave a summary of the Shoreline Management Plan update and explained the legal requirements for the plan. He gave a historical timeline of the project to date and how the Town and County are working together to complete the plan. Garrett said that the purpose of the update was not to restore areas to their original condition as much as it is to maintain ecological functions and ensure public access to the shoreline.
Questions were taken by attendees and answered by Mr. Phillips, Chuck Beyer and Michelle McConnell respectively. Mayor Jacobson asked for ideas for his proposed waterfront park from the attendees and was given several including the possible creation of a Native American display to honor the local tribal history, a pedestrian corridor from the marina to the downtown area and open space for waterfront access to the public.
It was agreed that another workshop should be held within the next few weeks to review several technical memos that need discussion before the final draft is due in March.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
Dale Jacobson, Mayor Kerrie McNally, Municipal Services Clerk
